The 9/11 Terrorist Attacks were a watershed moment for the United States in terms of political relationships, economic relationships, and image. The War on Terror opened up the ability for states to commit violence in the name of protection citing the War on Terror. This is an interesting conversation about perspective and the loss of reputation for the United States.
